My Crafty Space – Crafternoon

Hi Everyone, Chrissy here with a layout I’ve created using the fabulous “Crafternoon” collection. Oh yes…a collection about crafting!!! I love all the little fun crafty sentiments and imagery. So for my layout I decided to use a black & white photo of my craft room.

For this layout I decided to pick out a couple of colours from the collection, I just love the minty green and yellow papers then added a splash of black with some of the sentiments and painted wood flourishes – and thought a black and white photo would work perfectly.

How cute are these teeny tiny images of paint tubes, brushes and that manakin – these were fussy cut from the Handmade paper. I painted the Wooden flourish buttons black and added yellow coordinating thread to them.

I fussy cut all the beautiful flowers and leaves from the Back Stitch paper and the Making Memories hoop from the DIY paper. I have tried to add things and items to my layout that captures my love of scrapbooking – the tiny needle represents my passion of stitching on layouts, the little black scissors below for my other passion – fussy cutting.

Friendship – Under the Gum Leaves

Hi Everyone, Chrissy here with the first of my October projects. Today I am sharing with you a layout I’ve created using the fabulous Under the Gum Leaves Kaisercraft collection – I just love this striking collection it is filled with beautiful Australian flora & fauna.

I decided to focus on using the papers with all the beautiful flora on them, I had a photo in mind of my daughter and her friends, the colours matched perfectly. So I set about fussy cutting all the flowers and leaves from the Protea & Wattle papers.

I used a number of papers to make my base – Protea (reverse), Bottle Brush & Fauna. I added a couple of punched strips top and bottom and some colour coordinating stitching. I love stitching on my layouts to add that little extra interest.

I love the Gold Shimmer Kaisermist – it goes beautifully with the colours in this collection, so used it on the base of my layout.

I added my photo to the centre of the layout then started to arrange all the fussy cut elements around it.

I added foam pads to some to give height and dimension.

Under the Tree – with Peppermint Kisses

Hi Everyone,
Chrissy here today sharing my second project for September, featuring the lovely Peppermint Kisses Kaisercraft collection. I love the playful imagery in this collection so decided to use a photo of my daughter when she was younger, she always had to sit under the tree and have her photo taken with her toys.

I created my base using snow Kaisercard, Minty, Ho Ho Ho & Under the Tree papers. I have also added some splashes of red & gold Kaisermist.

Of course I had to do some stitching, so before matting them all together I added this along the lengths of some of the strips with bright red thread.

Now for my favourite part – fussy cutting all the cute embellishments to decorate my layout with. I fussy cut all the pink & red poinsettias from the Fun & Festive, Ho Ho Ho and Santa & Co papers and fussy cut the very cute Nut Crackers and Reindeer.

I then layered up the poinsettias to give some dimension.

After adding my photo to the centre of my layout I then start to arrange all the fussy cut elements around it.

I like to add foam pads to some of the elements to give that little extra height and dimension.

To finish off I have added a title using one of the sayings from the papers and added some red pearls to the centres of the poinsettias .

This Christmas collection is just the cutest and I hope I have inspired you to use it.

Peppermint Kisses – Advent Box

Hi Everyone,

Chrissy here today with a Peppermint Kisses project – this collection is so pretty and playful so I decided to use it on the brand new Christmas Advent box.

When ever I make up a Beyond the Page project, especially a storage item with lots of parts, I like to do a dry run of putting it together first, as I don’t want to be fussing about wondering where all the parts go once it has been painted & papered.

I would usually paint any edges and paper any parts before putting it all back together. But this time (as I wanted the paper to cover the joins I decided to put the main parts back together again minus the little dividers and paint it like that. I used white paint so it did need a few coats.

I then painted the little dividers (above) but left the little bits that slot into the Advent unpainted, if you paint these they will be to tight to slot into the holes.

I chose to use double sided tape to assemble the little drawers, then to cover each drawer I cut a strip of paper the same height as the drawer and long enough to wrap around three sides plus a few millimetres etc at each side of the front.

To cut the finger hole into the square piece of paper for the front of the drawers, I used the drawer as a template and marked the shape of the finger hole before cutting it out

Once all the little drawers were covered with my chosen papers I slotted them into place and once I was happy with their position I added the numbers.

I covered the top and sides of the Advent with the holy jolly paper and covered the back of the advent aperture with the spotty paper from the paper pad and fussy cut all the fun images from the Santa & Co & Fun & Festive papers, then arranged them in the centre of the advent, I used lots of foam pads to give height and dimension.

To finish off I added pearls to the little drawers and distressed the edges of them, I wanted to give them a kinda snowy effect.

I hope I have inspired you to create a Christmas Advent Calendar – this item would look fabulous decorated with any of Kaisercraft’s Christmas collections.

Being together is the best gift of all – Starry Night

Chrissy here today sharing my first project with you for September, featuring the striking and gorgeous “Starry Night” Kaisercraft collection. I love the gold foiling and strong colour palette in this collection and of course the poinsettias which are crying out to be fussy cut.

PRODUCTS USED

I created my base using the Navy and Caramel and the gold Glitter card stock. On top of this I layered the Magic paper and the reverse of the Daring paper which was cut to shape and edged with the gold Glitter card stock which was die-cut using the Ornate pack no:2 – and some stitching using metallic gold thread.

I also sprayed some Gold Kaisermist to the top right hand corner and bottom left hand corner of my base.

The poinsettias on the Miraculous paper are just gorgeous, so I fussy cut these and layered them up.

The coordinating stamp set has some lovely elements on it – I stamped and fussy cut the little poinsettia’s.

I like to change the colour of my photo’s to match my papers, so added a vintage/gold tone to this photo which was originally a coloured photo. I added layers under my photo and stared to bulid up the rest of my layout.

There are some lovely collectables in this collection, I used the gold swirls and gold ornate flourishes from the pack to add interest around my photo.

I finished by adding all the fussy cut poinsettias around my layout & added some bronze rhinestones to finished.

Technique Tuesday – Mixed Media Rusty Cogs

Hello Chrissy here with another Technique Tuesday. Today I am sharing with you how I created some Mixed Media cogs using the Kaisercraft Wooden Flourish pack Workshop, ink pads and paint.

Other: Texture Paste|Crystal Lacquer

I started off by painting all the Wood Flourish Cogs in Mud Puddle paint, it doesn’t have to be precise, it is like an undercoat. Next I lightly dabbed on random bits of texture paste, then left to dry for a few mins. The next bit is fun, adding layers of ink using the Silver, Black & Vintage ink pads, lastly adding the Gold ink pad on top.

I also die cut some cogs from the Navy Kaiser card and used the same process without the texture paste.

Now to create the rest of the layout, I started off by building up my base using navy card and a selection of the Workshop papers.

I LOVE stitching on my layouts, so added some extra interest by hand stitching along the length of some of the papers. Then started to build up my layout by adding layers around my photo.

I’ve added the cogs around my photo, adding foam pads to some to give height and dimension.

I have had a typewriter sat on my desk for a very long time and have never really used it, I decided to type some of the lovely sayings from the collection onto a strip of paper and added that to my layout.

To finish off my layout I have added a few tiny metal embellishments and pearls to the centre of my cogs. I hope this has inspired you to have ago at Mixed Media cogs, this was my first time, it was fun so I will be doing it again very soon.

Sparkle – Let It Snow

Hi Everyone, Chrissy here with my first official post for Kaisercraft, I just want to say again, thank you so very much for this amazing opportunity Melissa Kennedy.

For this post I am using the gorgeous “Let It Snow” Kaisercraft collection. The colours in this range are just beautiful and who doesn’t love a bit of foiling. My photo is of my daughter Merley, she loved dressing up at Christmas time in her fairy outfits.

I started by layering up all the papers I wanted to use for my base, cut them to size then added some stitching around the edges using colour coordinating thread. I cut out a circle from the centre and tucked my photo in there just to make sure it looked ok. On reflection I decided to use a larger photo that filled the entire circle.

Now the fun bit……fussy cutting all the embellishments, I fussy cut all the beautiful foiled flourishes from the Wonderland paper, I love that when they are fussy cut they curl up and give that extra dimension on your project.

Once all the embellishments have been fussy cut, I like to arrange them around my layout without sticking them down.

I also used some of the collectables, these are just brilliant to tuck in and around your layout or project, some are just shapes others having lovely sayings on them. I have also added one of the pretty Curios to my project.

To finish off my layout I have added some rhinestones and tiny star die-cuts. This is such a beautiful collection, I have enjoyed working with and hope you do to, I look forward to seeing your creations.

Dance like no one’s watching

I was so excited when asked by Melissa Kennedy to be a guest designer for July. I was also thrilled to be given the beautifully magical “Enchanted” collection to create my project with, it features mystical fairytale imagery of trees, mushrooms & hidden doors.

As soon as I saw this collection and the beautiful Whimsy paper I knew how I wanted my layout to turn out and I had the perfect photo in mind. I started by cutting out the trees from three of the Whimsy papers and layering them up, I wanted to give the illusion of looking through the trees. I matted these onto the reverse of the Idyllic paper and then onto the Ruby Kaisercard with just a little bit of the cardstock showing top and bottom of the layout. I printed out my photo so it fitted perfectly in the centre.

I love stitching on my layouts, so added some hand stitching at the top and bottom with colour coordinating thread. I fussy cut all the beautiful elements from the Starry-eyed & Utopia papers and the door from the Mystical paper.

The beautiful bright red flowers were fussy cut from the 6.5 x 6.5 paper pad. I then started to add all the elements around my layout, tucking them in between the tree layers to form little clusters. I also love the info strips you get at the bottom of all the Kaisercraft papers – they often have beautiful sayings on them and they also make great titles. I added one to the bottom of my layout.

I added foam pads to some to give height and dimension.

To finish off I added some rhinestones to the centres of some of the fussy cut flora.

The Enchanted Collection is so beautiful – its suitable for projects featuring children playing, strolls through the woods, just your favourite outdoorsy photos and much more.
